Puerto Ricans are getting another shot at voting on statehood after the island's governor on Friday approved a non-binding referendum to determine the US territory's political future. The referendum will be held on June 11 and gives voters two options: statehood or independence/free association

Other possible "future states":

Manhattan
Guam
District of Columbia
Philippines
Great Britain (with succession from EU)
Jefferson (N. California/S. Oregon)
The division of Republican/Democratic California
North Colorado
Delmarva (Delaware, Maryland, Virginia)
Division of North/South Florida

What is the possibility that one or more of the above become a 51st state? Will political division amongst rural and urban areas of states ever cause a complete division?

Is that some kind of Biblical prophesy?

See 1946 if you mean The Philippines.

Oh Dusty, Mrs. Dinkleman used to blame inanimate objects for her randy behavior.

Fleshlight, to be specific.

Good times.

Most polls indicate that Puerto Ricans want to become a state, but I don't see that happening in Congress or state legislatures. Unless there's a constitutional amendment, D.C. won't become a state either. I say no.

Texas should be split into 4 states. California at least two.

Why? Republican California would be smaller than Rhode Island.

I think that's the current trend in thinking.

Urban centers are screwing electoral votes for states. A lot of rural residents want to separate from urban cities. Just wondering which election will finally piss people off enough to start movements.

Clearly you've never been anywhere outside of a big city in Cali. The entire north half of the state wants to separate from the south. (See "State of Jefferson")

I wish the south would secede again so we could finally just cut them off. I'd take Puerto Rico any day over that dead weight

I mean Jefferson is a long shot...it's been proposed since the 40s

But it just makes you think that it's not as cut and dry as a the electoral college makes states out to be

We should rearrange the territories that make up Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. Maybe even include extreme Western Florida area. Make a new State of West Florida and let the Shreveports, Tupelos and Tuskegees be a single state way to the North.

In the middle make Montgomery, Jackson and Alek figure out how to live with each other.

Put Acadiana (Catholic and Iberian/Gallic heritage, not hate!) in West FL as well as keep the enclave of Funroe just cause it'd drive folks around there crazy.

Those fricksticks in 1812, '17,'19, and '45 screwed up the state boundaries.

Definitely given the disparity between the electoral college vote and popular vote during the presidential election.

I'm just going to go ahead and assume you're retarded if you think the U.K., the 5th largest economy in the world and not to mention the former largest empire the world has ever known would become a state!

Seriously, how fricking stupid are you if you think that is a remote possibility?
