I grew up just west of The Woodlands. I hated that place because it was very upity and snooty, but I would gladly take it over BR. It is a little boring, but Houston has everything you will need and more. And again, your kids can go to public school on the north side of Houston and not come out fuqed up. The place to be if you work in The Woodlands is Montgomery. More country, do not pay Woodlands taxes, and while Lake Conroe sucks, it is right there.

This sounds great for when I want a family. My whole point from the very beginning was that as single 25-year old, I'd rather live in BR and I feel like I could find more things that interest me here. It's not supposed to be a dig at The Woodlands. It's an unbelievably nice area, and my cousin loves raising her kids there.

Midtown is where you want to be when young and single. And again the talent... Most of BRs hotter ones have been passed around like a blunt. The girls out there are more than plentiful.

In downtown Houston you have way more music venues than BR. House of Blues, Verizone Wireless Threater (now Bayou City Music Center), Toyota Center, Warehouse Live, then most of the bigger clubs will have live music now and again. Also, country acts hit the bigger country bars on the outskirts of town like Big Texas in Spring and Clear Lake.

You have a point. If we ignore a facility in Woodlands that consistently books world touring acts. And

I wasn't saying to ignore the Woods Pavillion. Quite the opposite, actually. I was just wondering if there are any places there to see non-world-touring acts. Seeing ZZ Top, DMB, Styx and Tim McGraw isn't everyone's cup of tea.

do you think The Woodlands is this unique Utopian oasis that cannot be replicated or something?

Are you this stupid? The Woodlands is 35 miles away from downtown of the 4th biggest city in the country and about 15 miles from one of the top 10 biggest airports (an international airport) in the country. How in the frick are you going to form anything remotely similar or comparable to the Woodlands in Lake Charles?

I was being honest when I asked about other music venues besides the Woods Pavillion, or if there are any cool dive bars and the like. Is there a decent indie or art scene there?

Can't help with that, you'd have to find some hipsters to ask

There's always a band at baker st pub when I go and I usually run into tons of people from Louisiana

Of course. Just as we are ignoring everything NOLA for BR options.

Well since Baton Rouge is a suburb of New Orleans and everything, of course.

In the Woodlands? Not sure.

In Houston? Absolutely. The Woodlands is 30 miles from Houston.

When you add in the other things that the Woodlands has to offer, driving 30 miles to find your cup of tea isn't such a bad thing.

Well the hell with those people.

Actually I wouldn't want to live in either city. Im in mid 30's with no kids. If I had to pick, professionally speaking Woodlands with a doubt. Pure entertainment, BR. But thats only bc my favorite city is just an hour away. It has little to do with BR. After 10 years of livingin BR, LSU and proximity to NOLA are its only 2 lasting benefits

I know. Houston has everything under the sun. I was just curious about The Woodlands itself, i.e. something I theoretically don't have to drive 35 minutes to get to.

Woodlands is 45 minutes away from Houston. BR is an hour from NOLA. Are we really splitting hairs?

Nah I feel ya, I was just answering only to what I know about. I would have to assume that there would be smaller bars with local type music. I am out in Katy though so I'm not familiar with that scene of the Woodlands.

And for a 25 year old single guy, the burbs aren't going to be for you anyway. You want to be in midtown where you can take chicks home with ease

Uh, the Woodlands is about 30 miles from Houston.

Baton Rouge is 70-75 miles from New Orleans.

That isn't splitting hairs.

Fair enough. I respectfully disagree. I've never had issues finding things to entertain me in BR. You just have to look a little harder. Obviously it pales in comparison to N.O. (also my favorite city).

lsu2006,

Just curious, have you lived anywhere other than BR? Not visiting, but lived somewhere, say more than 2 months?

Typically takes me 45 minutes from door to door woodlands to Houston.

It used to take me an hour door to door BR to NOLA.

Mileage is not a good comparison considering the traffic.

What time did you leave? 4 am? Everybody knows it takes well over an hour to NOLA thanks to the Kenner and Metarie BS.
