Why would anyone in their right mind go into the Restaurant Biz?

the failure rate is incredible..I've seen people sink their life savings into starting a restaurant because it seemed cool and then lose it all….plus even the successful ones have to work so many damn hours they end up divorced.

You sure have been worried about other people's financial situations lately

So people with a passion to cook and have an entrepreneurial spirit should not make a solid attempt at their dreams????

i'm just a very conservative financially person

there is a reason most of them fail…the vast majority don't have any clue as to what it takes to be successful

I honestly think the answer is that the folks that can cook have zero business sense and blow it through bad decisions. Besides, making delicious food is a small part of the equation.

bc not every restaurant owner sinks their life savings on opening, and some aren't married yet and thus avoid divorce

While that is partly true.. There's a whole lot more to it then that

i dont get it either. I get told all the time I should open a restaurant. frick that.
Id rather get divorced!
eta: I have thought about starting a food truck. Find some grocery store that has good gumbo in LA, and ship it here. Then dish it out, I think it could be huge.

I agree about running your own restaurant. It sounds awesome but I'd never want those hours. I have known a few people who have some franchises and are taking it in just being owners. Now at some point I'm sure they killed themselves working, but not anymore.

The failure rate for any business is very low.

A friend of mine and his wife took a swing at it. His family had some restaurant experience and hers had a lot. Went well for a couple of years before an epic crash and burn.

Shreveport is fricking all of there restaurants. Right now it's a zero sum gain. When one opens up, another fails. I don't care how good your food is. It's like trying to keep 10 car lots open in Mansfield. It just won't work.

with franchises you really have to own several to make decent money
you never talk to a guy that owns one pizza hut or mcdonalds....you talk to a guy that owns 15

I don't know. The owner/store mgr to a Dominos I worked at 15 years ago was making about $70k.

The son of the Panthers owner had about 55 Bojangles franchises...

My wife won't let me... Or the slut hut would be booming!

that's not exactly killing it when you consider the risks of owning a business

People are dumb generally. It's incredibly hard work and you have to deal with drama/turnover from employees and constant pressure for new competition. Also you must keep at it to maintain quality.
It's a terrible business.
