That really sucks dude. I always leave 20-25% because ya'll work hard. 10% if I'm totally neglected.

Yea but it all evens out. You got to take the good with the bad.
I don't advise rewarding bad service though in the same sense. If I get bad service I'm going to tip accordingly and that's even while I'm part of the industry.

It gets rough but I rarely let on if I'm having a bad day or etc. I take the underhanded politeness approach. It always works better.

Oh absolutely. That's par for the course. We tip out 2$ of sales and yes I have actually paid to wait on people before. I always joke that for some reason certain demographics then I can use their compliments to put gas in my car and pay rent.

You tip me good repeatedly and Ill "accidentally" ring in a couple of your doubles as singles/ forget to charge you for a couple beers.

As long as my regulars dont come to expect that then ill do it. Cant do it all the time but I definitely know when I can get away with it.

The guy at the place I go just makes all my drinks strong as shite, and I appreciate that. A free one here or there would be cool but I'm definitely not expecting it. It's a dive bar and half the people get a "frick no" when they ask him for a drink.

I don't get too worked up about tipping because I kind of like being able to toss some extra scratch at some people if I like their service. I do get annoyed with the attitude "you've never worked in the service industry, you don't know how hard we work" blah blah blah. Get a different job.

So, you don't mind paying more for the food....just not in the form of a tip? Most brick and mortar restaurants with table service have to operate on a 8-10% labor cost to make a profit. Can't do that paying a serving staff $12-$20 per hour. Would have to jack food prices up about 20%. So, you would end up paying the same, if not more by having it absorbed into operating costs and it would not be your choice. I prefer to keep it my choice how to compensate good or shitty service.

I'm fine with the system as it is, most wait staff are just poor college students with shitty parent that make them work. I feel bad for them

it allows people who tip well to get better and faster service

Do people really believe this? I dont eat out enough for people to recognize me as the guy who tips well, so I cant look at it from that perspective. But i did work in the food service industry and the thought never crossed my mind to wait on one table faster than another because the tip would be higher. Only thing of that nature was large top (8+ people) tables where they took up most of my shift. I expected a big tip because I missed out on getting other tables. But if there was no tipping, that wouldn't matter.

Expecting people to tip you for doing your job correctly sounds more like communism.

Sounds like the everybody gets a trophy movement. Get a real job.
