Seems like since the World's Fairs in New Orleans and Knoxville, there haven't been any.

Do they still have them?

they're called Expos now. Dubai is having one in 2020. Milan in 2015.

The Nola one was a shitshow, naturally, so it'll never come back to the U.S.

They've always been called Expos officially. "World's Fair" was more of a casual term. There hasn't been one in the US since the Louisiana Exposition in 1984. It's the only expo to ever declare bankruptcy. But the ones prior to NOLA didn't perform much better. The biggest problem was that they gave NOLA an expo just after having one in Knoxville, TN in 1982. Not much of a gap.

Plus, the United States allowed its membership in the International Exhibitions Bureau to lapse years ago. I believe there are some cities in the US trying to get an expo in the future though.

That's a pretty boring website for the World's Fair.

How many here knew there was World's Fair in Nashville in 1897?

I'm interested in old fairs for some reason. I found the murders in Devil In The White City boring, but the logistics of the Chicago fair in 1893 fascinated me.

I just got a book about the NY Fair in 1939, looking forward to reading it.

They do, it takes place every day in Orlando, but they renamed it EPCOT.

Much more profitable than the old way.

I've been pretty obsessed with learning about the fairs since the 25th anniversary of the Louisiana 84 Exposition. I vaguely remember the fair (was 3-4 years old at the time) and really wish I remembered more.
