Regardless of DST, they send kids to school too early. Especially HS kids

Huh? If school is a part of prepping them for the real world, they need to be going earlier, not later. 745 is a late start for most of the working world.

It isn't necessary, but most people feel it's better than standard time since they'd rather have the daylight tacked on at the end of the day instead of the beginning. So we keep it.

I feel sorry for states that don't get the joy of daylight savings time.

My favorite is when people bitch and moan about DST and say it should be done away with when they actually like DST and hate Standard time.

I bet it decreases outdoor activity and health drops.

I am pretty sure it is just the opposite. DST increases outdoor activity and increases physical and mental health in the average person. Once it shifts back to regular time in conjunction with the days being shorter and colder there is a lot less outdoor activity for most people.

We’ve outlived the need.
and this is the last time Louisiana will have the change. The state legislature has already passed a bill to kill it and once the ferds ok it, we are done. When we change back in march 2021, we will never change again

There’s actually biological science behind it regarding hormones and fricking with their circadian rhythms during puberty. In counties/states where they’ve flipped middle/HS with elementary times, kids have performed better.

This. I don't understand why people have such a hard time grasping the difference.

Crime also drops slightly

bullshite. LSU got raped yesterday and that was before DST ended and they'll get raped again in two weeks.

It has zero bearing on crime!

I know you are being facetious here but I feel like this thread needs clarification. The OP asks why DST is necessary. Another poster gives some minor benefits to support it as well as myself. A few others post about issues after DST ends

1. So kids don’t have to show up to school in the pitch dark

Yeah, no. It’s been dark when I leave for work for the last three months and the school busses have been picking up kids in the dark. Based on that, the time should change in August.

Why can’t they split the difference and call it a day?
