Why is daylight savings time necessary?

We’ve outlived the need.

Because many out there aren’t disciplined enough to put away 10% of each day.

1. So kids don’t have to show up to school in the pitch dark
2. It saves a little energy.
3. So people can be active longer in the summer
So people can downvote without having better reasons. Why bother with evidence when opinions and anecdotes are all that matters.
Never change OT.

In the winter, the afternoon Daylight Saving Time advantage is offset for many people and businesses by the morning's need for more lighting.

According to some sources, DST saves energy. Studies done by the U.S. Department of Transportation in 1975 showed that Daylight Saving Time trims the entire country's electricity usage by a small but significant amount, about one percent each day, because less electricity is used for lighting and appliances. Similarly, in New Zealand, power companies have found that power usage decreases 3.5 percent when daylight saving starts. In the first week, peak evening consumption commonly drops around five percent.

All three dumb reasons.
I bet it decreases outdoor activity and health drops.

Crime also drops slightly

Buses are rolling at dark here all the time. They usually head down our street around six in the morning.

Because the government tells you it is, it’s for the sheep that does what ever they tell them to do

Sunrise is later with DST.

just never go back to standard time, and I’m fine.

And now it will be light at about 6:30. Look it already starts to get dark earlier this time of year. Just deal with it.

when I lived up north in PA, after daylight saving time people hunkered down more and almost hibernate till spring. You dont want to be single as there just isn't near as many women out and about to meet. Then come spring the gyms were packed with people trying to lose their winter weight

Regardless of DST, they send kids to school too early. Especially HS kids.

Go back to Standard Time.
Same amount of daylight each day.
Better light distribution time wise through day.
Midnight is supposed to be in the middle of the night. Not 3 to 4 hours after dark.
Who gives a shite about going to work in the dark. Everyone should be up and at it at dawn.

DST is not necessary, but should replace standard time imho.
