re: Why I don't order from door dash

Door Dash needs to be honest and let people know what's going on. I don't know what the problem was with your order. But it could be that you're out away from anything so even with a good tip, it would place the driver too far out. That means you would need to pay round trip mileage to make it attractive. Or it could just be a bad restaurant that takes forever to pick up at.
Either way... you're probably better off going and picking it up yourself. Some areas just aren't fit for the service. If you ever have a problem like that, you can contact support and they will usually comp it.

All of this shite is the exception, not the norm. Especially this day in age.

I worked in the kitchen at a restaurant in college. We worked with a mix of college kids and ex-cons. None of that made up bullshite ever happened.

I drove door dash for a bit as a side gig. For as easy and simple of a job as it is it amazes me how many fricking clowns there are that do it.

If you don’t want to work 15-30 minutes past your scheduled shift don’t take a hourly paying job. Always laugh when my employees ask to be cut early.

I have employees that show up to get cut. I love when they start having to pay real bills and they have to comr to work. Slowly watching that reality set in is fantastic

I've witnessed some really rude delivery drivers when I'm dining out/picking up. I made one insane woman storm out without the food because I fussed at her to stop berating the employees (Asian family that was busting their arse to get the large Chinese food order cooked for her).
Some of these gig jobs seem to attract absolute bottom barrel people. I use Instacart from time to time, and the biggest reason I only use it occasionally is because sometimes you get stuck with shoppers who have no idea how to grocery shop. They either chat you the entire time asking for help finding things, or they mark the items as not in stock and you have to go to the store yourself for it all after the delivery.

meal total was like $20. shite was nearly $40 after taxes, fees and a tip.
This is the reason I don't use any of these services. The restaurant probably gets screwed some way also.

It's a luxury to be used as a tax for being lazy. If you don't feel like doing it... pay someone else to do it for you. The restaurant gets increased business. Some like O'Charleys have made a whole different online business/restaurants just for online services. They have 3 just out of their building and then also the regular O'Charleys. They wouldn't be doing that if they were getting screwed.

My pizza hut is five minutes away. What do you think I do?

I had to make several phone calls after an hour went by asking where the driver was. About 2 hours later, the food finally gets to my house cold as ice. I said never again. I'll go pick my food up.
That's a reality of it.
I drove DD for 2 years, and I've ordered from DD for.....5-6 years? I'd say 30% of the time it sucks. But 70% of the time I get food delivered to my door, which is an insane luxury.
There's no way to do quality food delivery profitable as a standalone service. Pizza delivery/chinese delivery are subsidized services. To get a fleet of dedicated, no bullshite, presentable drivers who were ready to work and took the job seriously, I'd imagine to break even you would have to charge delivery fees that only a small percentage of the population could afford.
If running food was profitable there would be more than 3-4 services, and the small startups wouldn't be so eager to immediately sell when they took a fraction of the market.

I door dash all the time. 95% of the stuff I order gets delivered in a bag and/or boxes with seals on it. Don’t really see how someone could mess with it. Have had 0 issues using it, but I’m also generous with tips.
We use it about 4 times or so a month when I'm at my Mom's or when I'm ordering food for her and the sitters. Works out well and we haven't had any issues at all. Food is sealed well and arrives hot.
Waiter or ASAP or whatever it's called now is more expensive and we have had some issues with them, so we don't use them unless the restaurant they want is only on that one.

I've had drivers try to come in with an attitude. I'm quick to let them know I am now the customer to the business they work for. A simple call to knock them from taking my orders and they lose all the orders from the business with the most delivery orders. frick those types

You get people out there who really buy in to the "no boss" line.
