Why don't Staples and Office Depot just sell normal stuff?

I need to buy a posterboard. 'Oh all we sell is the 5 pack of posterboards with grid lines.'
'Here are our 3 ring binders with an extra 4th ring and locking device.'

I went in to OD a couple of weeks ago for some plain 2 pocket folders.
"We have the multi-pocket, gloss finish, with clear business card holder, report style folders."
Spent like 18.00 for a pack of 5 when all i needed was 3 regular ones that shoulda been 4.00
