Complacency and not realizing the major difference between a Cat1 and a Cat4 storm.

Some are unable to financially. It’s great to have time on your side, but if you can’t afford gas, food, or lodging, where are you supposed to go?

What about Harvey and Ike?

Don't remember much about Ike, but during Harvey, there wasn't enough time to evacuate a city of 4 million people. The storm developed and hit in two days.

They've been given nearly a week's notice and it's a mandatory evacuation notice.

Because of that,

These people will be the same people the coast guard will be plucking off rooftops, rapid water rescues, etc.

That should not happen. frick those people. We should not risk lives to save dumbasses. It's not even a risk really, it's a certainty that some rescuers will die....all to save the life of a dumbass. That doesn't compute to me. We're trading a hero for a dumbass???

I get there will be necessary rescues of situations with people that did evacuate to better grounds and whatever, but if you're on a roof top in the worst predicted zone....there should be absolutely no attempt to save them until it is absolutely deemed safe to do so.

Lester Earl rode out Katrina to protect his Grandfather.

He was keeping us up to date on everything until he went silent for 2 weeks.

I was very very worried about him. But you gotra respect he was there to protect his grandad.

It really depends for me. We didn't evacuate for Matthew and it jacked Savannah up. We evacuated for Irma and that bitch followed us to Atlanta and fricked us up. I'm not evacuating for Florence so it will most likely come straight to my house.

My house cant flood and Id rather be hot for a day or two than sit in traffic and go to a hotel. I also like to get the yard cleaned up asap, then enjoy the couple of days off before going back to work.

The problem is post storm and being cut off from supplies or even power for days or even longer. And f shite hits the fan first responders are at risk to have to rescue their dumbasses. Katrina and the Texas hurricane last year should have made people think twice about staying behind

I didn't evacuate for Irma but I would evacuate if I thought my family was definitely in danger. Living in the Tampa area you almost have to make a last minute decision to get out because any storm would have to take an extreme right hand turn for a direct hit.

I was stationed at Lejeune in '96 when both Fran and Bertha hit. Can't remember which hit first. I was on base for the first, it wasn't too bad. Went home got married, moved into a 3d floor condo on the intercoastal. The sliding glass doors were bowing in and out like they were breathing and the whole building shook for hours. We huddled in the back bedroom praying the roof wouldn't blow off or the building collapse. That storm wasn't nearly as powerful as this one. It's not worth it. Evacuate.

They're waiting to hook the chain to the pickup truck and haul out ATM's when power is out.

you just have to make a vacation out of it, nothing can be lost that insurance can't replace, when I lived in FL it took me exactly one hurricane to learn the drill, you leave, go somewhere fun, watch the news, when power comes back to your area, you give it another few days to wait until gas stations, grocery stores, and restaurants open back up and are supplied, and of course, no more curfew, then you cruise back in and give a big old whassup? to the idiots that either never left, or came back too early and went through all of that misery, for what?

Some people:
Don’t have a car to evacuate
Don’t have a place to go
Can’t afford hotels
