This. Especially here in La. where you can comfortably use a porch about 6 months of the year.

Plus, they are more of a maintenance headache often needing more frequent prepping and painting between decking, railing, support columns and steps.

I have an old N.O. house with front and back porches. The back porch gets the early morning to midday sun and the front porch gets the early afternoon till sunset and it's brutal on the surfaces. In the summer months the deck will get to 120 degrees on both porches and that makes using them pretty much a no-go.

I've got an outdoor thermometer about 7ft. up off the back porch and it will regularly read 110 degrees by 11 a.m. and the front porch in the late afternoon is even hotter.
