Check where they are now, in comparison. That's the horse laugh.

Feds already proved you are just renting your state from them.

quote:

Texas never wanted independence, they wanted to be an American state. Independence was just a stopgap while they waited for statehood, which took a while because of objections from the non-slaveholding states. As an independent country, Texas didn't have the wherewithal to keep Mexico from invading again or to secure itself from Indian raids. The myth of rugged independence is just that, a myth.

This is mostly true. That said:
1. Not all Texians wanted to be part of the US, a significant faction were opposed and wished to remain Independent. There were numerous ill-conceived expeditions to further expand Texan claims on territory during the Republic;
2. They couldn't keep Mexico out of San Antonio, mostly because of the distances involved without an effective garrison of troops permanently stationed there. But Mexico couldn't stay there long, either, because they were incapable of doing anything but what amounts to a flyover in today's military terms (their supply lines were exposed and too long);
3. Spain and Mexico never made any effective defense against Indian Raids... Texas was in fact colonized to protect Mexico to the south. Indian raids didn't stop until the 1880's in Texas. The US Army didn't have the wherewithal to secure Texas from Indian raids either for about 50 years.

They couldn’t even beat Mexico last time without major help and have been invaded by Mexico every year since and haven’t done shite about it.
