Well you don't cover that in a basic policy anway? So why does my basic policy go up and why am I paying for a separate uninsured motorist policy.

They do cover you with your collision coverage, but if they have no one to recoup their payments from, it’ll drive up costs.

You’re paying separate UMBI coverage to protect yourself if you’re injured by someone who doesn’t have insurance. UMPD can be carried if you don’t have collision, to protect yourself if an uninsured driver is responsible for your damages.

No one is forcing you to carry anything other than basic liability in Louisiana. Every other coverage you have, you chose it.

If you think it’s a scam, drop everything but minimal liability limits.

Wow, surprised to see so many people go to bat for insurance companies, like they aren't raping us

US Car insurance payouts last year were $230,000,000,000. That is almost 1.2% of the world's largest and most powerful GDP.

Without the claims, they can't rape us (think of it like a margin where the car insurance companies want to be at about 2-4% profit on total revenue).

I'm not in the insurance business- but I feel confident most of the people I see driving to work each morning have trouble getting it- if they even bother.

Still doesn't change the fact that they Only cover collision (the basics) why should a potential accident with an uninsured motorist affect that when they wouldn't cover it anyway?

I could understand if just my uninsured motorist policy was higher, but the whole thing is really just a catch 22. Price people out of keeping insurance, charge higher rates using that as excuse, government collects stupendous no indurance fines. frick the consumers in La.
