Because if im buying a recreational rv it's going to be an rv, and not a tent with wheels. I assume some will be driving it daily as well.

What about a clean, settled person, that appreciates the quality good beer and weed that hippies supply? Are we cool to stick around?

It depends on if you want to park your vehicle in a campground, or to be able to bring it on Forest service roads, and camp in the middle of nowhere.

I hate campgrounds with a passion. I generally get USGS or National Geographic Forest maps, and find where dirt roads meet up with creeks and rivers. I like to be so far in the woods, I could play a drum set without anybody hearing me.

That's when a van is much better than an RV. It's all about which way someone prefers to enjoy the outdoors. I'm surprised they don't sell these in the US. You would think they'd be very popular in Colorado and mountains out west.

Look at overland Porsche Cayennes or Lexus LXs.

Westies are cool though.

You can get these Benz conversions, though.

I hope to buy one and take off in a few years.

The 80's model Vanagon's (especially the 4WD syncro) are pretty hot commodities right now.

Toyota made a similar van in the late 1980's that was 4WD.

I have seen some pretty sweet Chevy AWD Astro camper conversions.

Good Westies are not cheap. They are roomy, off road capable, efficient, and easy to work on. I don't know if I have the patience to go slow though.

My friend just bought a Westy.

I don't have much patience for going 55 but after taking it out one night I'm more worried about going long distances without cruise control and having to keep my foot on the pedal.

We're taking it to the Grand Canyon and other NP's in Utah at the end of September.

shite, just get one of these and put that bitch on a big ole 4-wheel drive dually truck. Sleeps up to six people. Has a queen size bed, dinette, and a couch. Carries 48 gallons of water including the water heater and has a dry bath (shower and toilet are separate).
