Lake Charles doesn’t need an I-10 bridge that high. The current bridge has a clearance of 135 ft. The new bridge will be 73 ft.

I've heard that about the Sabine River above 190, but never the Mississippi

Didn't they have to partially sink the barges to get the powerhouse for the Hydro plant under the old bridge?

just maybe—is because they want to provide for future ships and clearance into the ports.

Dumb as was replied. Bigger, sure...taller, no. FYI, just maybe, steam ships are a thing of the past

The height of the Huey P. Long Bridge, which carries US-190 over the Mississippi River in Baton Rouge, is 113 feet above the water.

So you don’t think that when the “new” bridge in Baton Rouge was built and planned in the 50’s-60’s that compensating for height was a factor?

I always get sweaty palms driving over the basin or the bridges in Lake Charles.

Then you should stay away from that Port Arthur fricking thing!!! It's flat out scary and is as high as any you've ever seen.

Using your Hypothetical, then why wouldn't it be 500 ft high?

I had to go over the Rainbow Bridge in Bridge City in the 1990s when I visited someone there. I didn't know what I was getting into. I was scared as hell. It was two-way traffic back then.

Because a ship that large probably wouldn’t be able to safely navigate the Mississippi River?

Doesn't seem there are any vessels that would need that high of clearance

There is a reason why the The Huey P. Long - OK Allen Bridge in Port Allen was built so low
