any time my friends told me they were going to have a baby i always give the tentative, "congratulations?" rest of the conversation is based on their response.

I know the OP has caught a lot of heat, but this isn't a bad point to make. It's probably not a good idea to jump in with the congrats immediately. Let them explain the situation first before you say how awesome it is

Well I wouldn't say that since it goes against my principles. Not that I think the child is any less worth for the choice of the 'parents' but I think it's a bad decision to have kids before you're married. Having said that, I know people who've had bastards who are better parents and raised better kids than those who were married before having children.

All comes down to how worthwhile the parents are. Its not the child's fault either way.

Fair enough.

FTR, my wife didn't hit me, I am bad at baseball, and any misadventures I've posted about my wife and family in here are all just messing around in good fun. I would never bring any real problems to this place.

I'm 20 years old with a 5 month old daughter. Yes my life, and hers, would be easier if I had her down the line. But that's all in hindsight. I can honestly say that she is the best thing that's ever happened to me, and I wouldn't trade her for the world.

Yes people said congratulations, because a human life is something worth celebrating. At least my daughter won't grow up to be a judgmental, narcacistic piece of shite. Can't say the same about your kids.
