Plenty of rich people smoke, drink, and do drugs. Trust me.
There is inevitably a higher percentage of poor people “using” due in part to the “stakes” being lower. (Rich people have more to lose by losing control and therefore have that holding back many from going overboard with usage)
It’s quite natural to use things that take the edge off. Whether you’re rich or poor, married or single, black or white, life in general is stressful at times.

The OP asks why poor people do/have those things, it doesn't state that those things are exclusive to poor people.
It's kinda like salad dressings. If you are trashy/poor, your favorite salad dressing is probably Ranch. That doesn't necessarily mean that you are trashy/poor if you like Ranch, though.
ETA: you might fall into the "stupid" category that was discussed earlier.

Being addicted to drugs is really expensive, and cocaine is expensive but recreational drugs are generally cheaper than drinking and are relatively low cost entertainment.
You could do a weekend binge of meth and cigs for like $30. Doing the same for beer / cigs would be a lot more.
You could get a gram of weed and be high all weekend. What else are you going to do that cheap?
