Did you convert all 360 cash flows from the 30-yr 1980 mortgage to 2019 dollars along with the down payment? The payment made on that mortgage in 2009 would be almost nothing compared to what housing cost at the time. You’re also assuming the owner didn’t refinance in 1995 when rates were much more reasonable. Likewise, you’d need to discount all of the cash flows from a 30-yr mortgage acquired in 2019 to compare apples to apples.

bullshite.
1. Who bought pizza from Gumby's?
2. That price didn't exist 1981-1986.

Yea idk what that guy was fricking smoking. I literally was in athens a month ago and bought 2 pizzas delivered to our airbnb from dominos. It was like 30 bucks after delivery fee, tax and tip.

Factor in the time value of money, and pizza was EXPONENTIALLY more expensive back then. What you paid 30.00 for would have cost us 18.00 then.

My grandparents do this. Grandma talks about how grandpa only made $4 an hour as a field hand for Halliburton.

Actually I lied. Just checked my app. Price was 38.31 before tip. Gave him a 5 dollar bill for a tip so it was more like 43 bucks. In Athens, Georgia. One of the poorest areas of the country.
ETA: 43 bucks is roughly 18 dollars in 1985 money. So pizza has kept up with inflation pretty well.
That argument was about this dude claiming pizza was cheaper today in nominal dollar amounts, which is pure lunacy and an example of the point OP originally made in this thread.

All 4 minutes it took to order it from his phone was probably worth, I don't know, $0.00 since he probably wasn't at work
He could have picked those up for $15 from Pizza Hut

See my edit above and I respect myself too much to eat pizza hut.
It was bad enough getting dominos
ETA: Just fired up pizza hut's website. 2 large pepperoni's delivered to my house right now comes out to 32.55 before tip.

$345 in 1970 with cost of inflation is $2,365.11 in 2019
You can buy these for $1 today.

It's kept pace, as you've said. Ingredients were probably comparably more expensive then, I'm sure.
You're right, it was Domino's. Domino's was so synonymous with late night pizza, that that is was what pizza was called (Domino's, and not pizza).

You lumped all people over 50 together because your mother in law is stupid.
Why do all married men under 50 rely on their mother in law's advice?

First off, if she graduated in 1980 from a 4 year RN program, she is probably 60+. Secondly, do you always make assumptions about an entire age group based on one person?
quote:A quick google shows the average entry-level registered nurse (RN) hourly pay is.$26.83 so she may have a point, that’s almost a 24% increase.
told her that 7 bucks in 1980 is equivalent to 21.71 today.
