I think it mostly has to do with exposure. The youngest generation is always full of idiots. It's just that the millennials were the youngest generation when the internet first began to be widespread, so the idiots of the millennial generation were able to be seen by all.

This is one of those factoids Millennials love to bring up but fail to put into proper context. Not all STEM degrees are worth anything, in fact, most of them outside of core engineering disciplines are as worthless as a Sociology degree unless taken to advanced levels. Same for Business degrees (the refuge for those that can't hack engineering majors).

A BS in Mathematics isn't worth much, neither is only a Masters, and a Ph.D. means you might be a lowly paid assistant professor somewhere. Same goes for biology, chemistry, and most others where there is a glut of Chinese and Indian post-docs willing to work slave hours for $35k/year. You are the typical know-nothing here.
