boomers were thrown a meatball down the middle, grounded into a double play and don't get why their teammates are pissed at them.

Don't worry. I went to a better college and grad school than you did and make more money than you do. Shitboomers haven't affected me. But it doesn't mean they aren't greedy fricks that fricked up the United States.

Maybe so. Neither of my Master's degrees are from a great university, and my chosen career path does have a ceiling unless there is some entrepreneurial component added in. But I have a great family, great job, the OT rated 2700-2800 sf house, and only have to work 40 a week.

But despite all that success, you're sill salty as frick over a perceived injustice "your generation" has experienced? Maybe the ruling Boomers were "greedy fricks that fricked up the United States", but your perfectly illustrating the "Millennials are whiny bitches that blame others for their failures" prevailing thought.

No way man, their college tuition was something crazy like $400 per year which is why so many of them just decided to start a career after high school.

Now many make over 100k with that HS diploma while barely possessing the competence to type with two hands correctly.

They had it rough.

this is a message board for Christ's sake.

what are we supposed to say? "thank you baby boomers for the great opportunities and circumstances you have left us with."

A family friend has been a hospital administrator for over 30 years and he makes stupid money. He has a 4 year degree.

A 4 year degree would put you in the secretary position today.

Maybe something rational that falls on the spectrum between...

quote:

thank you baby boomers for the great opportunities and circumstances you have left us with.

And

quote:

Nope. Shitboomers destroyed the economy through wars and greed.

Blaming previous generations is a right of passage, but let's be rational about it.

After much thought and many books, I believe Baby Boomers to be the worst generation in American history. They actually bought the hype. My parents were of that generation. I could write books about the self-indulgence of that generation. I like being a Gen X guy, a generation that mixed philosophizing about our essential slacking with getting educated and laughing at the self-regard of the baby boomers. Somewhere in the middle between Old School and New School, not really fitting in with either.

is our economy not in terrible shape? are we not 18 trillion in debt? do baby boomers not deserve the vast majority of the blame for this?

Yet Millennials are able to succeed all the time. There is an article on the first page of this thread saying Millennials are already managing my generation and Boomers alike. There is obviously something, maybe a character trait, that enables these select Millennials to succeed. I refuse to believe it's all simply a function of white privilege and inherited money. What's different about those Millennials who have found success?

Sure, elected officials during the Boomer generation deserve some blame. As do the parents that raised this generation with a "participation trophy" and "everybody needs to go to college" mentality. But a little self reflection would likely reveal alot as well. And a mirror would be the best place to find that.

I hope not, considering I was born in '79.

Im not worried about myself, I'll be fine.

The fact remains that less fortunate millennials were dealt a shitty hand.

Eta: I think gen y will be the first generation to have a lower quality of life than their parents.

Why do baby boomers neglect other generations? by knight_ryder

I have never seen so much ignorance concentrated in one place.

The baby boomers were the hippies in the '60's. They were the first to implement major social change. They bridged the gap between the racist laws and social customs of the prior generations and moved American society ahead. They implemented the Civil Rights Act and Voter Rights Act.

They improved on computer concepts and created massive computer systems to greatly expand access to knowledge.

They built the infrastructure for the phone systems, televisions and internet that you take for granted and can't live without!

They created LSI Integrated Circuits to miniaturize the electronics you carry in your pockets.

They switched the world from analog to digital and built the infrastructure to implement it!

Everything that you enjoy now, where do you think that came from?

It is obvious you know very little about pre-1960 American culture. You are very short sighted and think things should be perfect so you would not have to do anything to improve society.

There has been more change and improvement in social mores and technology in the last 50 years than in any other time in all of history.

If you see something that needs improvement, get off your lazy *ss and improve it! That's what the baby boomers did!

So you really want to give an entire generation credit for a few brilliant minds?

The baby boomers fricked up globalization so bad it's not even funny.
