Cosplay practice.

I'm curious to know what their sickness levels are compared to normal people.
If you live in a bubble, you'd think you'd be more prone to getting sick due to lack of immunity.

Two reasons. The poor air quality in the cities, and they wear it when they are sick to prevent spreading.

2 reasons.
1) In Asia (China specifically) they are often wearing them because of air pollution.
2) If you're sick it's to reduce the risk of someone else getting sick. Take a look at subways during rush hour in Japan: one sick person can spread things to a lot of people quickly.

They wear the mask for different reasons. Most people wear it when they are sick as a courtesy to others. Some wear it when the sun is out to shield their faces. Usually they have an umbrella and are wearing long pants and long sleeves. There is this thing where if you have lighter skin then that means you are rich and don't need to go outside and work.Last, some wear it when they don't feel like getting dressed up and putting on makeup.

To cover their mouths when they chew and slurp their food.
