US didnt lose the war in the middle east. What were we supposed to do stay there for 100 years? The people/government there never wanted democracy. They didnt want to defend personal freedom so we gave them the keys to rule their country and they said no thanks we prefer to live under taliban rule. That's on them not the U.S.

So different now. At that time we were very concerned about communism proliferating in Southeast Asia (Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia) and then reaching to other areas such as the Philippines (The falling dominos theory).

Terrain.
Failure to bomb North Vietnam into the Stone Age like we did German and Japan.
Also did not attack staging areas in Laos and Cambodia.

It was a war game. Testing new strategies, new equipment. They would send those guys on countless suicide missions to test the outcomes.

it was unwinnable given the fact that what it would have taken to win the war would 100% drawn china and russia full fledged into the conflict and then everything goes to shite
in a vacuum though, bare minimum an invasion of north vietnam and full fledged bombing of their military installations. topple the communist government, give full fledged support to whatever shitty dictator we ultimately would have supported in its place, and then sign a defensive pact with them to protect them from outside interference
we never set foot in NV and only bombed places that we knew russian advisors were not located. we never should have been there in the first place but it is what it is. we were terrified of losing asia after china became communist

Because the Vietnam war like Korea, Iraq, Afghanistan, was simply a means to continue massive unlimited budgets/profits to the Military Industrial complex.
Winning was never the goal.

but what you’re proposing just sounds like the Afghanistan strategy

we never sent any kind of significant or serious number of troops into NV specifically because we were afraid of china of reacting in the same way that it did in korea

Nixon had the war won once they started the air bombing campaign. Then the Democrats and Congress defunded the war and our Armed Forces had no choice but to go home.

bro, do you even route pack 1-6a? yep, a that was largely airstrikes but there were a significant amount of US boots all over NV, we were kicking their arse too, except when hamstrung by Washington and the CIA

The general incompetence and corruption of ARVN was a huge factor. Despite being one of the most well armed and funded militaries in the world the officer corps was garbage and almost every conscript had no interest in fighting.
Like the Nationalist in China the leadership of South Vietnam were more interested in getting rich off US funding than actually winning the war.
