Why did the US lose the Vietnam War?

This is a question I would like the OT’s take on. Why, in your opinion, did the United States lose the Vietnam War? I’ve studied the war and have found varying reasons (dogged willingness of the North Vietnamese/Viet Cong to fight to the last man, lack of support at home, no clear end in sight, etc.)
In hindsight, it is almost unbelievable that a world super power like the United States could lose a war like that. What caused this to happen, in your opinion?

I know this is a discussion board, so we're here to discuss, but this one has been put to bed many times over

Domestic politics and lack of clear mission. We should never have been there.

Too much political interference. Not allowing the Commanders in field to their job and win.

its unwillingness to escalate the conflict. probably saved ww3 from happening but not a good strategy to win that singular conflict

Fight to take hill. Enemy loses hill. Enemy leaves hill. US leaves hill. Repeat.
You win the battles but not the war.

We were fighting an ideology, not a clear enemy.
Example: Look at the conflicts we have been involved in in the Middle East

Unlike World War II, in which the USA used all of its military power to win the war, in Vietnam, the USA never used all of its military power. The USA was reluctant to do so because the USA feared Soviet and Chinese military power.

Unpopular war at home. It turned out not to be as strategic as we initially thought. North Vietnamese and Viet Cong were highly motivated and intended to fight till the two Vietnams were joined.

also, our politicians didnt do us any favors when it came to keeping americans supporting the war

The same reason the US lost the war in the Middle East
No real reason to enter that war other than flexing its muscles

I agree with this. It was an unwillingness to fight a total war. Or, at least an unwillingness to commit to actually winning. The balance of winning the war was way out of whack with "winning the hearts and minds".

You don't make money curing the problem. The money is made treating the problem.
The military industrial complex didn't want the war to end.
