Do I have to post the divisional casualty rates for both Europe and the Pacific again? I know it's been a while and perhaps you've forgot.
Oh come on Darth he was just kidding for the most part and you know it.

Oh, I know. He's an old jar head and I'm an old army DAT (dumb arse tanker). He and I have proudly carried on the rivalry between Marines and Army that's been around as long as there's been such a thing as a US Army and US Marine Corps.
We give each other shite but if anyone else disrespects the other, we take that as fighting words.

In my opinion, we are seeing a changing of the guard politically speaking. Throughout history we have seen military leaders become president with roosevelt, Eisenhower, and others. We've had career politicians with the clintons, bush, and barack. Now I think we will start having business men. Its gotten so corrupt that you have to be a billionaire to fund the run. Hopefully we will have a strong nation again. We look like a bunch of pussies.

It was damn sure a shock at first,There were a couple of others in my series at P.I. who had also been in other branches, I was the only one that made it.
The other 2 always wanted to broadcast that they were prior service, I did my best to stay invisible, until the final stretch.

Good move. My kill hat forgot who I was a few times. I thought that was top five accomplishments in my career, and I did a lot of cool shite.

I didn't see The Pacific, but you're talking about Eugene Sledge, right? I hope you got to spend some time with him. As the military history buff you are, that would have been a treat.
I haven't read "With The Old Breed", but it's been on my list. Between Peliliu (sp?) and Okinawa, that guy had to go through some bad shite.

Judging by your terminology, you went through a good bit later than me. We were only numbers at first inside of our platoon I was #24,and it was written on all your T-shirts with a magic marker and we had to wear a silver painted helmet liner, with a piece of Masking tape on it with our number. That was for several weeks, until all the morons finally caught on to drill.
That was so embarrassing for me. When we finally got to just wear our blouses and covers( of course it didn't have any insignia on it) that was a big day for me.

I don't see a lot about Ike have a specific problem with the Corps...Interesting how much of a lackluster military career Ike had for the first 20 years he was in service, relatively speaking, and how quickly he rose after that point.
Truman was a national guard artillery guy. Nuff said.
