They’re more economical They’re more practical They’re more functional

I've heard this all my life, but I’ve Never heard anyone explain why, specifically, this is the case.

1. More interior space than even big SUVs like a Suburban or Expedition. More trunk space with 3rd row up, more 3rd row legroom, and with more space all seats folded/removed.

Behind 3rd row:
Odyssey: 38.6 ft (158 ft all rows folded)
Suburban: 39.3 ft (127.1 ft all rows folded)

Suburban better than expected behind the 3rd row, but it's also 21 inches longer overall.

3rd row legroom:
Odyssey: 38.1 inches
Suburban: 34.5 inches

2. Better MPG than comparably sized SUVs (see above).

Sienna: 19/27/22 mpg (more realistic to achieve)
Expedition: 17/24/20 mpg (good luck)

3. More car-like to drive and easier to park than the bigger SUVs. Sliding doors are clutch in narrow parking spaces and the low floor is easy for kids and old people to get in and out.

4. Lower purchase price, again, especially when compared to the biggest SUVs.

5. Usually have better crash test scores.

SUVs win on towing, ground clearance, and better availability of AWD/4WD.
