I get that. I used to really hate Baton Rouge. I found it really boring, and I found myself in good company in my dorm amog people who hated it. Then I realized something, the only places we would ever go in the city were Tigerland, LSU, and the Mall of Louisiana, if we ever even left the dorm at all. Everyone was b$tchig about it, but no one was ever venturing out and exploring it. So that's what I decided to do.
I found that there was actually an ok music scene that was totally underground. I found that there were all of these festivals no one at LSU knew about. I found all of these hole in the wall restaurants across town. I embraced the city, warts and all, and found that it was actually, kinda nice. Not outstanding, but not nearly as boring or cultureless as most people said.
It also helped that I started college while BR was startig to show real results in its downtown and mid city renaissance. The city kept adding new restaurants and bars. I just emeaced it, and the city has embraced me. Those who complained about it in their dorm rooms graduated, having never left campus, Tigerland, and the mall. They moved to jobs out of state never knowing that there were actually some things about BR that didn't suck.
BR has some serious challenges and drawbacks: lack of a diversified economy, completely deficient transportation infrastructure, inadequate drainage infrastructure, huge population of people dependant on entitlements, high crime, terrible schools, ect. I figure, I live here, I go to school here, I might as well try to make that place a little bit better and enjoy living here.

Most baws have never traveled outside their parish

Well why would they? The traffic makes it a pain in the arse to leave. Plus, there's colleges, safe neighborhoods, and good blue and white collar jobs right here at home. A kid growing up in Ascension Parish has no reason to ever need to leave the BR area. They can grow up, get married, and make a good living in the parish thanks to all the plant jobs, baw.
