I have said this 10000 times. It’s clearly and not arguable that America needs to end it’s dependence on oil period, because it’s totally controlled by a foreign Cartel, (OPEC) whose whole purpose it to maximum its value to them as that’s essential to their economy’s, which will rarely ever be in our interest. Then a domestic cartel here that sets prices whatever they feel like. Almost no matter where you live, there are no more than 2 or 3 wholesale gas suppliers in your area because of limited refining capacity. So that shell, Chevron, etc gas may all have different blends but come from same refineries so paying same wholesale price, so price competition is an limited and really an illusion. (40 cent spread here now )

I didn’t say foreign oil, all oil. A post oil world economy is coming whether we like it or not, and good riddance

We don't have a comparable replacement for fossil fuels. Nuclear in some cases but we seem to be anti nuclear power in this country.

Oil is also used in so many different ways besides making gasoline.

If so, then prepare yourself for your new empires and their overlords to take it’s place. They won’t be nearly as kind as the old empire was, and seriously will not give two shits what you or anyone else thinks either.

Probably not even then although we might use less of it. There are thousands of products made from oil.

Europe hasn't done much about their oil consumption. Their usage was trending up pre Covid.

Exactly. The media and people who voted for this admin will say whatever they need to in order to deflect from this admin shitty policy. That is my whole point.

Exactly, we are saying the exact same thing. Contradictory info to the masses depending on the day and what narrative they need to gain votes. Truth be damned.

Except that this entire argument started because you went off on someone, accusing him of being a liberal shill, when he did in fact give you the truth.

Let me remind you how this started:
quote:

You people will come up with any kind of bullshite to defend shitty domestic policy by a shitty administration you elected. It's perverted.

Says Joe Biden “just announced on CNN he will completely shut down drilling for oil and natural gas on day one of his administration.”

But nah, the president has little impact.

frick you a-hole.

It’s impossible to have any rational discussion when people just fly off the handle at the first bit of information that slightly contradicts their political beliefs.

1. You’re calling US refiners a cartel? That’s.. just not how it works here.

2. Limited refining capacity? What? The US has a shitload of refining capacity. It’s why we have historically been a net exporter of finished fuels.

3. Competition is limited? In Louisiana we have refineries operated by Exxon, Valero, Marathon, Shell, Citgo, PBF, Placid, Delek, Calumet, and Phillips 66. Those are just the ones I can name off the top of my head.

I guess this is what I was thinking about in 2020 we were net exporters of oil. I guess it’s fine as long as you are ok with a few Arabs having ability to destroy our economy on a whim.

(Yeah i know the complete history, Aramco etc. Hell, I know the CIA agent that rode camels with the wasabi that help created Saudi Arabi, but he is gone, as so many of these people and the younger Saudis don’t seem to be under our control anymore) Or Texans which is only slightly better.

oil imports

Hmmm, can't think of a reason.

Oh LAWD, thank you for the Rant posters who uncovered that, for the first time, under Biden, we are importing foreign oil! Some of it Russian!
Why is Nancy Pelosi buying up all this oil?
What does she intend to do with it?

The strategic oil reserve should have already been already been open.

Anyone that lived in 60s/70s knows the US president can freeze prices, take control over refineries etc. He can declare state of emergency and that’s it, he has significant power at his disposal. He can declare martial law, activate draft, send in Tanks, etc.

It’s political suicide for president and his party, but it can be done. He can also completely ignore the law and the USSC, and do whatever he wants just like Reagan, Nixon, Bush the elder, Johnson, Kennedy etc did.

None of this will happen but it all is possible
