Why are there not more medical schools or higher acceptant rates?

I read an article that law schools are suffering (rightfully so) because many people are choosing no longer to attend. However, why do people bitch about there being a shortage of doctors when the medical school acceptance rate is so low? Dr.'s still have to take their boards so who gives a frick if you accept more?

I was listening to an interview with someone who is involved in such stuff a while back and there is a legitimate and coordinated effort to control the number of individuals who are allowed to enter medical school in order to prevent an excess of medical doctors...
I am typically not a conspiracy theorist at all, but I heard myself...not sure if this was limited to the state of MS or nationwide, though...

There's no shortage of any type of labor, really. It's all about scaring the government and public into allowing more HB-1 visas and to encourage government investment/subsidization of training.

Ive never in my life not been able to see a doctor for an illness

no, but you can certainly wait a pretty good while if you need to see a specialist...

They have increased the numbers of students and schools. The problem has never been the student number. Only recently have there been more students than residency slots.
The problem is residency numbers. The money for residencies comes from the government, if Scruffy isn't mistaken.
That number has not increased.

This is my thoughts exactly. Makes no sense at all. I respect all the docs out there because they work their arse off to make it but why is the threshold so hard to get into school?

So you want to accept everybody and waste a ton of money and time on all the resources it takes to educate medical students? It isn't as simple as read a few books, take a test, become a doctor. They don't want to accept people that won't make it.

kind of meant for an emergency.
yea i can see going to a specialist can be awhile before you see them. i tried to get an appt with my urologist and he had a 4 month wait for a regular visit

And per that article the number and budget for it has been the same since 1997.

I think thats mostly in the STEM fields, and not as much in the medical field.

It has only been a recent thing where there were more graduates than residency positions.

Which is fricking deplorable. Maybe we should have done that first, before all of this gaddum insurance bullshite, which I still agree can be helpful, but shite.

Look at what they do for a living. Why would you want to lower the standards and allow someone through the gauntlet that is going to let me die on the table because they dont know what theyre doing.
