Why haven't they had their own colonies? They're always the colonized

It has not always been thus. Egypt, China, Persia, Babylon, and others have had their runs. The epicenter of civilization has not always been in Europe (and now North America), and there's no law that decrees it will remain there.

the great divergence was a big reason. it's all cultural

western values lead to development

areas that aren't developing are where you find the rejection western values, often via oppressive government

This new age idea that cultural diversity makes a country stronger is one of the biggest fallacies taught today in Social Sciences. How did the United States get to be so powerful? Our federated system allowed for a unique balance between a national identity/system and regional level of self-government. Even as some elements of our political system and are showing early signs of failure and our cultural identity is being diluted, the country is kept alive by our excellent infrastructure and the apathy of the ruling majority. We are more interested in creature comforts than doing what needs to be done to grow the country.

People leaving the motherland were forced to innovate to survive and thrive. Group input and decisions had to be made to do that.

I haven't read this thread. But, I'm willing to bet some are blaming: liberals, Muslims, black people.

ol' Joe Rogan had a bit about this.

He calls the middle east and cradle of life inhabitants "the townies of the world"

Somalia doesn't have formal federal government but is controlled by a bunch of fiefdoms carved out by warlords

I had a discussion about this with a Pakistani who is pretty pessimistic about his country's future. His belief is that the difference between Pakistan and the US is the relative lack of corruption and that corruption is what is holding Africa back as well. Another way to put it is:

quote:

Rule of Law
noun
1. The principle that all people and institutions are subject to and accountable to law that is fairly applied and enforced; the principle of government by law.
