you don't see people from Mountain Brook throwing up "M"s and saying "Mt Brook n****!"

being from the 'hood or a trailer park would be embarrassing to me.

I see a lot of this in NOLA/Jefferson Parish. These are not poor and trashy people either, just very proud. Growing up in BR you don't see this once out of HS.

Because surviving Mountain Brook isn't quite as impressive as getting to 18 in Compton.

It's basically the same way people from New Orleans act.

Related question:
Why are people from poor neighborhoods more likely to name their kids aspirational names like

-Eunique or Unique
-Lavish
-Princess
-Captain
-Precious
-Etc...

I've never understood in the preface of a fight, urban people (who prob have never been in a fight) love to ask, "Do you know where I'm from?" I always think to myself...prob not from a place I would ever care about.

It's a way to feel content with never leaving a shitty environment. Convince yourself that your shithole is amazing and you never have a reason to improve.

that's a lot different. new orleans has a unique culture (or blend of cultures) which attracts tourists from around the world.

I'm in my 30's and to this day my friends who grew up in Metaire and Kenner still brag about which neighborhood park they played baseball at.

Apparently you are an Uptown snob if you let your kids play Carrollton Boosters

new orleans is an anomaly. middle and upper class people from the vast majority of cities don't have nearly as much civic pride as the yats.
