no... taking pride in your work is an internal concept.

The people that have IRON WORKERS OF AMERICA stickers on their truck also consume copious amounts of monster, marlboro reds, have shitty tattoos, and have salt life stickers on their cars

Getting rich off of federal subsidies and bailouts isn't exactly the thing to brag about.

No, but you'd've been correct had you said heirs of wealthy landowners.

assuming the OP isn't trolling, the fact that he's annoyed by this to the point of posting about it belies his own inferiority complex.

People post all kinds of mindless shite and put bumper stickers indicating different experiences:
30A. Disneyland, NRA, posting pics of meals, hunts, toys, kids teams, etc. That's not noteworthy. The OPs being bothered by it is.

They work hard and earn a living for their family.

Why not be proud? Those guys busy their arse out on the job sites. A lot of standing around but a lot of hours in shttg conditions.

We have it good the offices. Just show respect they take pride in their craft. Hopefully you do the same.

I think they're similar, although I've often wondered how many parents slapped that sticker on not to brag, but to appease a kid who brought it home and wants it on mom's car.

They all get pissy if you don't address them by their title.

Granted, this isn't around the pool or playing golf.

So when do they expect this?

want to be called "doctor" or "doc".

Like in their practice? I would expect to refer to a doctor as "doctor" in a clinical setting. It's their title and is used to differentiate within the medical field who is who.

oh and I've had similar experiences with PHDs.

Likewise with PhDs, I would expect that in an educational setting, you would refer to them as "Doctor" or "Professor". I don't see a problem with this.

Again though, I know plenty of people with PhDs and none of them have ever requested to be referred to by their title outside of work.

Bingo. They need the self-justification to avoid suicide.
