Why are people who want to die on their own terms always criticized by society?

This had potential but you deleted it! Maybe if you learned to finish what you start you wouldn’t feel so shitty.

Are we talking a teenager suicide, or a 60 year old with ALS? Context matters a bit.

Mostly because we have a population that believes in the nanny state.

They aren’t always criticized by “society” since society doesn’t have the ability to criticize. Some individuals criticize and some don’t.

Any age but a middle-aged person in particular.

I personally see both sides of the argument. Maybe it's really a case of God's Will but in a very unpopular and sad form. Could be seen as selfish. Could be argued we're all entitled to making our own decisions... live and let live. Or live and let die in this situation. IDK. Not an easy topic.

Well, just going off the title, a part of the human spirit is a stubborn willingness to never give in and always strive for one more opportunity.

I don’t have any judgement one way or the other but from a societal/evolutionary perspective, it probably arose from there not being enough resources and everyone’s place having importance to that society (same as gay people). We don’t have enough people for you to not be out there not working and making more people who can be working.

As we’ve entered a post industrial society, those environmental dangers that one day there just won’t be enough people to go on the yearly raid have waned.

I think the recent technological gains and societal forces are beginning to collide. We’ve become a very different society because our hierarchy of needs has drastically changed from where it was even 100 years ago. People don’t starve to death here. People don’t have to have children for our villages to survive. These advances go against 1000’s of years of adaptation. I don’t know what that means for the future but something’s got to give.

A lot of white liberals moving here pushing abortion so that’s changing. Murdering a baby is legal so not sure your argument

Eta: I get it’s different than suicide but if murder of babies are ok I imagine most aren’t concerned with suicide

Because death makes people uncomfortable. Very hard for people to accept someone not wanting to extend his life. I think we as a culture deny death at all cost. People are just terrified about it.

But what if a person no longer wants to live and is tired of living? Why shouldn't an adult be capable of making that decision if they don't like life?

WTF are you talking about? All they have to do is fly to a country that allows assisted suicide and do it if they have a legit medical condition. Or they can kill themselves personally in any way they want.

What they can’t do is pretend they want to commit suicide when all they really want is attention. Do it or don’t. But don’t frick about and waste everyone’s time.
