Then never complain about the lack of "community". I hear that all the time. There is no community anymore. Everyone living in their little bubble with little to no outside human interaction. Everyone walking around with their face in their phone not even saying hi as they pass. I work at a university. I see it everyday with kids on campus. They don't interact. It makes them uncomfortable.

Doesn't sound all that great, but I'm old so what do I know...?

Depends on what I'm buying. If there is a bunch of produce that I have to look up then I go through regular checkout. I'm not going to stand at the kiosk trying to figure out if it is green onions or onions, green or scallions or organic whatever. I'll run a few items over a bar scan but I'm not doing research.

Plus it does eliminate jobs from a socioeconomic group that needs them.

There are monthly posts on here on how to deal with benign issues with neighbors. People you should interact with often.

I for one am used to self-servicing myself. Maybe they aren't?

Pure laziness or a lack of self confidence.

Apparently you have not shopped for groceries lately. More self checkouts and prices higher than ever. Prices are going up monthly.

I love self checkout... the less interaction with people the better, IMO

Weather I use self-checkout or a cashier depends entirely on where the MILF in yoga pants is.

I get aggravated with self checkout when I have liquor and there is only one regular lane open. I go to self check out and have to beg someone to come by and put in their password to say I’m old enough to buy the alcohol.

Naw, I'm talking about small talk with a grocery store clerk. That kind of stuff. I go into the same stores all the time. Have a nice, fun relationship with the people.. small talk. Makes you feel like you're a part of the world.

All I see at work are hundreds of students changing classes, walking down the sidewalks by themselves, not talking to anyone. Talk about a depressing picture...

I don't frequent McDonalds anymore, but the one or two times I do when we are travelling with kids, the kiosk is the only way to get the order right. It's improved their accuracy by 80%

It really depends on the location you order from. I feel that McDonald's today compared to 20 years ago are lightyears apart. I've ordered from the app several pretty often and have had still had issues getting things done correct.

Ordering a burger with just meat and cheese shouldn't be a hard concept, but they went ahead and just threw whatever was already made, microwaved it and gave it to me.

Another time I had asked for "extra salt" on my basket of fries. I did get extra salt, in the form of salt packs tossed into my fry basket.

Ordering stuff with an app and just going to pick it up is even better
this is the way. Plus you get unlimited coupons ordering through some apps.

For instance I’ve only ever paid $5 for a subway sandwich in my life. Thought $5 foot long jingle was a thing of the past? Nope! The subway by me has allowed the same coupon deal for years 50% off any foot long. Makes me feel like I’m gaming the system when I skip the whole line to pick up my lunch at the noon rush. frick inflation, I got you beat!

FREEFL

Order it once a week and get 2 FLs for $10 have lunch for 2 days. You’re welcome

BOGOFTL is what's working for me now. BOGO free footlongs, two for $8+ total is nice even if the subs aren't that great.

Download the Honey extension onto your browser and it'll plug in several saved codes to see which will give you the lowest price. I've done it on Subway a ton of other popular restaurants.

Probably the only store that takes this in consideration. It's German owned, they have a different mindset.

I'm in charge of my own time when I self checkout.

My only wish is to have a roll of paper and the key to the gas pump at the baton Rouge Race Trac stations. While I pump gas, I can put the paper in the pump to keep me from going inside to get my receipt.

I don't care which one I use I just want it to be quick. On the rare occasion when I go to a cashier now a days it is because there is no or very little line. If I have $300 worth of groceries a cashier and myself can get them rang up, bagged up and in a buggy ready to go far quicker than I can do it by myself...because there are 2 of us doing it.

My preferred grocery store has self-check out and cashiers. They also have bag boys (often young women LOL) to bag your groceries and, if you are old and unable that person will roll your groceries to your car and load it for you...I see them doing it almost everytime I go. There is almost never anyone in line. Their prices are probably 3% higher than WalMart, for example...but it is worth it, too me, to not have to wait in a 30 minute line, check myself out and bag myself and I also think its worth 3% of my grocery bill to see a bunch of young teens working in a grocery store...those kids are learning some valuable skills and the self check out line ain't teaching those skills to anyone.

Thats Just me. We earn enough where we do not even notice grocery prices we just buy what we need or want...so 3% or so more is no big deal. I get it for people who it is a big deal. I also buy cigars at a locally owned cigar shop at about 50% more than I can buy them online because it is locally owned. I think its a good idea, if you can afford to do it and not cause yourself a lot of trouble.
