They've earned the Dr. title IMO.
Its not just MD's that are called doctors. I work with several phDs that I call Dr. in a formal setting.

I am fine with this. They work unbelievably hard to learn amazing and valuable skills.
What I don't understand is people lumping doctors and lawyers together, though it doesn't seem near as common as say 30 years ago.

Because they were historically viewed as infallible and people were hesitant to question their doctor. That is changing though, with the availability of information through the Internet, etc. to where people now know that doctors are just as prone to error as those in any other field.

There's some I work with which their pt's think they're the best ever only for me to know they suck as doctors....
I think it's general ignorance when it comes to laypersons about medicine....
