I'd just like to know what she looked like. I picture her as dirty Anne Hathaway with the short ragged hair like from Les Mis.

Sam Houston had an amazing life of highs and lows.
Stuck to his principles even when it cost him the highest of the achievements.

Me too. I think she was 17 when she rode into history. I can't even comprehend what being in her presence must've felt like.

I went to Mt Vernon a year ago. He was one of those people who was good at everything. Surveying, farming, landscaping, leading people. He made mistakes but learned from them.

Anyone know a good biography on him?

Definitely an interesting time it's just not a name I'd expect to see as most interesting person in history. He's most famous for (probably) killing his nephews and losing his crown. Although had he won at Bosworth, history would be really different. England would still be Catholic.

I think George Washington grew hemp. He'd be arrested in today's world.

I don't remember them highlighting that on the tour of Mt Vernon.

Simo Hayha, the White Death. Finnish soldier who killed 505 Russians, all confirmed, during the Winter War from 1939-1940. He killed all of these men in less then 100 days so he was probably averaging 5 kills a day. The Russians went as far as to carpet bomb and mortar strike the forest Hayha was hiding in, but he survived every attempt. A Russian soldier finally got the drop on him and shot him with an explosive round in the lower left jaw, blowing up half his fricking face. Somehow, he survived and regained consciousness the day the war ended. Dude was like a one man atomic bomb.

Before his brother died and Richard became King, his reputation was pretty solid. After that, it really went into the shitter, although some revisionist Tudor propaganda accounts for a lot of that.

I agree with that. It does speak somewhat to his popularity at the time that he could actually be defeated by Henry Tudor. Would've been unthinkable under Edward IV who mustered tens of thousands for battle. But there's no denying Richard was brave and more qualified for the throne than Henry. Did you see the show, not sure what channel, where they actually found his body under a parking lot? Had the curved spine and some appalling head wounds.
