Who's game for tearing down a portion of I-10 and turning it into green space?

Of course, I-10 would then just follow the 610 route near city park in New Orleans.
There's been a push for about 15 years to remove the elevated section of I-10 that sits in the Claiborne median (also known as a neutral ground by fake NOLA people) between Gravier and St Bernard.
All of this effort to improve highways in Baton Rouge and Lafayette. It turns out New Orleans has about a mile of highway surplus to spare.
As there is less emphasis on working in offices downtown and more remote work, this proposal actually has some merit. It would return Claiborne avenue to a tree-lined boulevard like it was before I-10 was built in the median.

And it would be neglected by DOTD maintenance crews overgrown with weeds and strewn with litter and car parts as well as a homeless person or two. Thanks, I’ll pass.

I imagine maintenance and tree-plantings would be the responsibility of the city's park authority.
There's already homeless people there. So no change. Instead of having a viaduct to sleep under, they will have oak trees and grass to sleep on. They'll just move to an overpass or something.

All examples of boulevards in New Orleans suggest this is more likely for an Overpass than a boulevard

Westbound traffic at the flyover ramp going to the westbank is already a clusterfrick at any peak traffic times. I’m sure the locals will love all that extra traffic clogging up the ground level streets to turn I-10 into greenspace for the homeless encampments

Another Mississippi River bridge south of New Orleans should be built first.

Definitely would not end up filled with tents

You mean south of Baton Rouge? If so, then I agree.

Have you seen the proposal that activates the ground level boulevard, but actually keeps the road above?
Claiborne Innovation District
It’s an interesting idea.

I like the ideas, but I'm skeptical. No one wants to hang out under I-10. It's too loud and dirty to really turn into a decent public space.

They did something similar in BR. They downsized government for some odd damn reason and now traffic is a nightmare....who woulda thought

Traffic will improve once people figure out where North Blvd and Florida Blvd are.

If by “south” you mean crossing at Brusly/Addis and Highland Road, I agree.
We don’t need another one any further south than that.

A new bridge a few miles north or south than the ideal position is better than no bridge at all.
Bayou Goula is the farthest south that I've heard. Plaquemine Point makes the most sense to me (right between Dow and Plaquemine). All would require an access highway to link the bridge to I-10 on the west side.

I'd say the interstate does more damage to what Baton Rouge is than to what New Orleans is. So get rid of the interstate in BR if anything.

Based on your second sentence, I'm guessing you're not from here. So why don't you stfu. We already have one dumb b**** not from here telling us what to do.

You want to destroy what’s left of the shipping industry and send it to Houston, Gulfport, Mobile, or Tampa because this is how you do it.

There was a book I read that discussed this Claiborne green space prior to I-10. Really good historical book about NOLA street names

Traffic is usually thick there and on the surface. I just don't see it working. What they should do is build business under the ramps like they do in L.A. you can use that space for auto and mechanic shops and storage. It don't need to be dead space.
What some locals want is more green space. I get that. But nola has a lot of green space compared to most cities.
We really don't need more chair filled medians.

Why? It would merely just collect more garbage no one will clean up.
