Why would Antifa support taking down the statues? if I recall from history class that it was the fascist that tore down statues and monuments across Europe and Asia when they rose to power, to erase the past. Then erected their own new statues. So isn't it kind of retarded that they are behaving just like the fascists they are supposedly against.

My folks moved out in 2000. We lived by kastnet on Haynes. Fond memories on Those streets.

Unfortunately, the turnout from locals has been poor, and the police are under Mitch's orders to stand down. I was there at Jeff Davis on the Saturday night before May 1 (when the big confrontation occurred), and can testify that it was leftist hipster transplants throwing insults and trying to cause fights. The pro-monument people I observed have been peacefully exercising their 1st Amendment rights.
Where are all the good ole boys from Florida Parishes/North Shore? Lafitte/Lafourche/West Bank? The lack of support to keep these statues even as others come from out of state to do so has been an embarrassment. The scene at Jeff Davis on May 1 was like the Alamo being surrounded. Even if you don't support these statues, respect them as National Register of Historic Places antiques (Lee and Beauregard are) and condemn the mayor's shady tactics, corrupt agenda, and willingness to sacrifice public safety for his own selfish purposes -- the bought-and-sold media's unwillingness to report on a mayoral scandal that would be making front-page news in any place with a functioning press. Landrieu is in the process of stealing valuable art works that belong to the people of New Orleans who raised the money for them.
