Funny you made this thread, I just moved to Cedar Rapids to work at a TV Station here

I pull in about 2,000 a month after taxes. It's enough for me, my total expenses each month is about 1,400 so I still have $600 leftover I can put in savings or whatever, but I really need a new car(and don't believe in financing) so I am looking to save about $10,000 so I can get myself a new car. That would take over a year with my pay right now but I don't know if my current car will last that long, so I am looking for a side job at night.

Cedar Rapids is pretty small and not a lot out there. I just applied for a server position. I haven't waited tables since college and I hated it, but it can't be too bad here in Cedar Rapids where its a bit more quiet, as opposed to Arlington/Fort Worth where I waited tables.

I have no bartending experience so I can't do that

And I delivered pizzas in high school/college. The place I delivered in high school was upscale gourmet pizza in Southlake, a very wealthy area near Fort Worth, and it was awesome, but in college they opened up a store in Fort Worth that I worked at and mainly delivered to apartments and it sucked. Also hated delivering to sketchy areas. Not sure if I want to get back into that here since its so blue collar, but its an option.

talk about being a over achiever..... geez how do u enjoy being such a hard worker for no financial gain?

you make 2grand a month but want to spend 10k for a new car? makes no financial sense with the money you make. buy a 4k car and keep it for 5 years then when you finally start making better money spend more money on a better car.

No I don't want $10,000 just for the car, I want $10,000 in general, then spend what I need for a car and then put the rest in a savings account.

$10,000 is my target. I would like 4 months of living expenses($15,000 x 4) and then $4,000 for a used car.

Deliver pizza

I delivered pizza for a couple of years in high school/college and we had quite a few older guys doing it as a second job. I made an average of 12-13 dollars an hour (just over 10 years ago), but I'm not sure what they make now.

I wonder how mandatory delivery fees have changed tipping.

They haven't for my chain. The boxes have a disclaimer on them that says the fee is not a tip. The fee is for increased insurance for drivers and to keep specials intact.

the difference with delivering pizzas over 10 years ago is the price in gas. and now you only get paid 2bucks per delivery.

That's good to hear. I remember drivers being really scared about that when the companies started talking about it.

Really? I've never had an employer have a problem with it. If you're a top performer your bosses don't GAF what you do as long as you keep doing what you're doing for them.

Dude. We got 60¢ a delivery in 94 and hoped for 1.40 tip to get 2 per run. We got paid 4.25 steady.
The average tip in my area is 3. We get 1.50 a run and 7.25 when in store and 4 on deliveries.

Bottom line is I'll take today's tipping and gas prices over 94's any day.

Eta. Fml I've delivered pizza for 20 years. Okay I didn't from 04-10 but...

Eta^2 we don't carry coins anymore. We are allowed to round up prices. That's a clear indication that it's not the same as even 10 yrs ago.

How do they separate in store and outgoing times?

If I had a car I'd probably deliver them for fun. Truck would use too much gas

Dispatch system. You or manager logs you out and in on runs(usually 2 or more during rush) so when you leave your makin 4/hr.
NNot a bad compromise. You at least make min wage if stuck inside folding boxes or makin pizzas and shite

Eta it really is stress relief and decent fun. Listening to mid week baseball games and making few $$ when I have nothing better to do is a good feeling.

Interesting. How much do you think you make a week after gas?

$182.75 without rounding.

Going with gas @3.54 a gallon I paid today to fill up my tank.

Not bad.

It's easy money. Only hangups are bitchy/stoner shift managers with egos, traffic, and doing side work at end of shift like dishes or sweeping or trash.

Dave Ramsey says it himself. it's a good and stressless way to make a few bucks. I don't work much now but I stay on the schedule and know if I'm in a pinch I can make twice that if need be and take a 12 hour shift on Sat or sun.

Eta. You hide most your money from the irs. So that's good.

My only problem is I don't live near one that delivers closest one is 25miles. However that may change next year.
