I have owned a Cobra for a little over 4 years and it has never failed me. I am beginning to think that you only need so much detector and the rest is window dressing. Mine does pick up the X band as I know there are some shite poor towns which that is the best they can afford. In some cases, they use it thinking that everyone will dismiss it as a burglar alarm or some other crap.

Posted by Message prontopo Who makes the best radar/laser detector? Anyone know if there is a detector that will pick up a Lydar unit? Got caught by one on I 49 a year or so ago.

Check to verify but I believe in lydar mode police can survey traffic speed but not use as a source to issue a summons?
I checked and was wrong sorry.

I own the Maxx and 9500 from Escort. Both excellent and incorporated with the app for your phone it gives warnings of potential trouble miles ahead. Pretty neat. The gps marks and locks out false signals , but say a cop is sitting in the exact spot as the locked source will sense the additional one and alert.

Sent my V1 back today for an upgrade as it's 7 years old. Go to their website and enter the s/n in the upgrade box. They'll let you know what's new. Charged me 100.00 plus shipping. Might be bullshite but at least In my head I'm getting the latest and greatest!

What band is it? If Ku or one not used by police could possibly lock out.

I looked into the V1 and laser jammer combo...jammers seem like more trouble than they're worth.

Installation is certainly more involved than just hanging a box on the windshield.

However, they work and are legal in most states.

Don't knock it until you try it.

As far as "effort" once you get past the install it's turn on and forget about it.

I run one on my motorcycle front and rear and for $599 it's saved me plenty of times.

For a full size car you do need 4 heads so that does up the price.

Turn off feature J (pop off) when you get it back.

Just a suggestion.

The thing many of you are not recognizing is the fact that all police cruiser speedometers are calibrated. That means that you don't have to be hit with a gun in order to be issued a ticket. There is no fail safe way to avoid tickets if you speed.

I agree with you, but if that little box pays for itself and saves me a few hundred bucks over the next 8-10 years because I have a habit of driving 81 in a 70 on the interstate, then i'm gonna make that investment.

I don't blame you. Radar is, by far, the most common thing run on the interstate so a detector should serve you well. I am just saying not to rely on it 100% because you never know when you will encounter someone running laser.
