Surprised no one has mentioned Chuck Norris. All those Missing in Action movies, c'mon now.

Aside from Walker:Texas Ranger, I couldn't name a Chuck Norris movie, maybe Delta Force...

I thought someone had him in their list - I would have him ahead of either Van-Damme or Seagal, for sure.

I hate you Bloodsport and Under Seige are better than the entire collected movie works of Chuck Norris.

Liked it. An homage to Enter the Dragon. Liked it - didn't love it.

Die Hard on a battleship. Liked it a lot. Seagal completely forgettable in it- could have been a cardboard cutout (and the cutout would have acted better). Tommy Lee Jones and Gary Busey make the film.

Well, I'm just going to say three words and leave it at that: Lone Wolf McQuade

Stallone, Arnold, and Willis are my top three. I'm going to have to think about the fourth.

I don't remember one explosion or car chase from Beverly Hills cop.

Holy shite Peej. The opening scene is a car chase. Then there's the scene with a fricking dump truck wrecking shite car chase. No explosions? Missile to truck full of weapons isn't an explosion?

That missile was courtesy of Judge Reinhold, why is why I doubted Eddie Murphy.

Remember "Walker, Texas Ranger"?

This was the feature film that inspired that - but it was 100x better. Chuck at his very best.

ETA: To be honest, without Lone Wolf McQuade and Chuck's earlier films, I don't think a lot of the "Gaijin" Martial Arts movies of Van-Damme and Seagal get made, although it is somewhat forgotten now.

It was a big player on the cable movie networks. Chuck had done a series of martial arts oriented films including A Force of One, The Octagon, an Eye for an Eye, Silent Rage and Forced Vengeance from the late 70s/early 80s. For us older guys, these got heavy rotation in the early days of cable because they were both recent and available.

These films, in my opinion, were heavily responsible for creating the market for Van-Damme and Seagal - very similar in tone to their early films. McQuade was different because it was more of a traditional action film - with almost a Sergio Leone vibe (at times), but having Chuck as the lead also lent itself to martial arts sequences, too.

If you haven't seen it - I highly recommend it, even if you eschew the remainder of Chuck's filmography (although you shouldn't particularly the films he made prior to MIA/Invasion USA/Delta Force which were terrible, I agree.)

I watched Way of the Dragon where he fought Bruce Lee with my dad. And for whatever reason I was a big Walker Texas Ranger fan. But my only memories of Chuck was him in denim vests with an Uzi

I was a Van Damme guy, especially since the guy got so much play on USA Network.

Definitely watch Lone Wolf McQuade. I can't single out any of the other "pre-MIA/Delta Force/Invasion" movies other than The Octagon. I would say The Octagon is required viewing for martials arts film fans.

Charles Bronson - Death Wish 1 through 5, 10 to Midnight

His role in Death Wish 3 alone puts him in the top 5. He f'n killed The Giggler.

Honorable mention to Reb Brown and Lou Ferrigno whose work in the two Cage films cements their legacy into the annals of the 80's.

And this is only slightly less true for Van-Damme - I'm not sure Van-Damme even gets my 5th spot - probably Harrison Ford for the period in question.
