Van Damme did some frickin iconic action movies like Bloodsport and Kickboxer.

That's why I have him ahead of Seagal.

If we want to screen out serious stars, I think that does knock Gibson, Willis, Ford and even Murphy out, then.

But, then Jackie Chan has to come in. I like my list. I stand by it. Arnold, Sly, Gibson and Willis.

But how much action is Beverly Hills Cop really? Trust me I've seen all of them and love them to death. But it's comedy with some gun fighting. Judge Reinhold fit the stereotype better to me.

JCVD was one of the premier action stars of the 80s and it creeped well into the 90s. Bloodsport is a top 5 Action movie from that era. Cmon Chicken, I gave Mel an honorable

Car chases, explosions, fisticuffs, witty cop banter, gun fights - how is it in any way different - genre-wise - from Lethal Weapon or Die Hard?

I agree that Murphy doesn't make the cut, but let's not pretend he wasn't the black Burt Reynolds or Mel Gibson/Bruce Willis of the 1980s - he clearly was.

I ate lunch with JCVD in Vicksburg Mississippi about 4 years ago. I didn't recognize him at first.

You guys saying Steven seagal wasn't a top 5 movie guy in the 80'-90's are out of your minds.

His movies were just as good as a whole outside of bloodsport and kickboxer.

If not for Steven seagal I would have zero clue of how to take out the Jamaican posses in my town.

I would like to see jcvd get marked for death by screwface and live to tell about it

I don't remember one explosion or car chase from Beverly Hills cop. It's more of a comedy than anything else.

This is hard but....

Stallone
Schwarzenegger
Van Damme
Mel Gibson

Hon. mention: Russell, Lundgren, Jackie Chan, Ford, Seagal and Willis

RIP Brandon Lee; He might be top 4 if he hadn't died.

He was awesome, but Eddie carried his movies with comedy and less just being a bad arse. It wasn't too believable that Eddie walking down the street would just start taking muthafrickas out. The opposite of that is JCVD, Stallone and Arnold.

Doesn't Wesley Snipes get a mention for coming on in the mid to late 90's?

I agree - and I omitted him from my list. I pointing out he did more comedy/kiddie stuff - but limited just to the 80s - he was competitive in this category. It is fair to say his action films were relatively heavy on the comedy side.

Yes it was, under siege, above the law, marked for death. Out for justice, on deadly ground....

All great and also all the same GODDAMN movie sans a character here and there lol
