I can't do anything backwards. Couldn't even do a back dive. I don't have the inherent trust necessary for such things. Now my 4 year old son tried 5 back flips off the diving board. Landed on his back on the board every time and wanted to keep trying.

You have to learn that skill, or at least the trust associated with it, at a young age.

30 is not too old. yes I know how. just remember to jump as high as you can and pull your knees to your chest. Not your chest to your knees and hang on for the ride and do not open up. simple enough. goodluck

over 30 here, 250. Can still do a backflip on a trampoline and into water.
As a kid i could do a full backflip and then go around enough again to land on my back on the trampoline.
Could do a backflip facing forward into a pool, and can still do that when jumping from a little higher than the water.

I always wanted to do one on the ground and could never muster up the nuts to do it for whatever reason when i was younger. I tried one time in my room when i was about 12. set up the fold up/down couch i had as a cushion in case i chickened out, told myself to suck it up and do it, and landed right on the back of my head. Still don't understand why i couldn't overcome that fear to do it on the ground. Boggles my mind and pisses me off that i never was able to do it on the ground.

Because while I was watching TMNT II last night, I found myself wondering if I could have ever done it if I had just tried. And now I'm feeling the challenge and thinking that I'm in my last window of opportunity before I get too old and fat.

Do I need to be in ninja shape? Or will a somewhat healthy physique do the trick? Is there a couch-to-backflip program I need to do?
