eally? So, back in the 60s and 70s, there were Laquandas, Keyshawns, Jakyllas, and LaDiamonds? Doubtful. And those are all names that I've seen in clinics and in the hospital. Also, what do you consider a "traditional black name"?

Those were not the names used. Read the studies. Names from the 70s birth kids were used as those would be about 30-35 in the study. Names such as Ebony, Keisha, Latoya, Darnell, Jamal, Leroy, Tyrone etc. Read the study I linked.

Doesn't really refute Scruffy's claim.

Exactly.

Scuffy's point was that these supposed "African American" names are really just "made up bull shite names" that have really NOTHING to do with being black.

All that happened was that for some reason, blacks decided, "frick this, we don't like these other names that came from white people, so, we're just gonna make shite up and call them "African American" names.

No. They're just ghetto names. And, employers recognize this reality.

And what about prior to those 3 years they used? Are those names prevalent prior to that time period? Why are those considered traditional names and not the names prior to then?

One generation does not a tradition make, IMO.

Why is it so difficult for some of you to believe that something like this would occur-people not hiring because of race?

Never mind. You are right. Racism and discrimination came to a screeching halt on the very day the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was enacted. It ceased to exist on that very day.

Those were probably similar prior. Don't play naive. The study had tonise some point in time.

I'm only arguing that those aren't "traditional African American names".

That is just a bullshite moniker with zero meaning and an entirely arbitrary date.

The hell it is. My point is just about the only act some would consider racist here is someone hanging from a tree. And a few would still argue it's something else.

So you're just guessing.

Interesting. So that point in time just so happened to coincide with the height of the Black Power movement.

It was in fact a straw man.

I bet that they aren't similar prior to that date. I would actually bet that whites and blacks had similar names prior to then.

That doesn't negate any racist aspects, but names have power and if there was a negative aspect to naming kids that, why would they continue doing it? There is some blame to place on the parents as well.

The same can be said for any white parent who names their kid something "cute".

My advice is, "don't do that".

He should shorten his name to "Tray" or "Trey". She should name herself "Charie" or something like that.

Many of my professional black friends do not put their full names on resume's. I'm just thankful that my parents had enough foresight to give me an Anglicized name.

Its time to end all the race bullshite. Race is not nearly as big of a factor as class is. Poor white trash do not like blacks because they think blacks get an upper hand from the government. Poor black people think all white people have the same privilege, etc.

I was talking with a friend awhile back & he was telling me about some job he was trying to fill. He said he interviewed 6 or 7 different people, the one black dude he interviewed ended up getting the job. He went on to tell me that one of the candidates tried to make a big deal out of the fact they hired a black dude, but according to him everyone else he interview (white candidates) were dumb as frick and that he hired the one person that was completely qualified for the job, which ended up being a good hire.

That doesn't mean racism doesn't exist, but frick. If you are a hard worker who knows how to present yourself, no matter what race you are, you have a lot better shot at life. The second you look for something to blame everything on, you start to limit yourself. You start to think that everyone is against you so you give up, etc, etc. The past is the past, I didn't have anything to do with what happened in the past, neither did anyone else living today.

For some reason, that's not a very popular opinion here.

African Americans better start to get their heads out of their asses, because when the flood of Muslims and Central Americans come through, they will get passed up even more and by yet, more races.

Asians have blown by them, and Mexicans are very close to doing that.

Segregation only ended around 50 years ago. It's conceivable that people are still alive who had an active role in perpetuating it.

The only thing that will fix this is time. With every new generation, the past becomes a distant memory.

Well to be honest if you live in Africa you can at least have a bunch of Panthers and Bills Super Bowl Championship clothing.
