Hitting a 95 mph fastball

Since you didn't specify a game situation where you are guessing pitch type and location, simple probability suggests that an average Joe could probably hit one in batting practice.

Same with the tennis serve assuming it's going to a specified location.

Pole vaulting is certainly the hardest as it takes a high level of both skill and strength.

The field goal is hard without training as it takes both accuracy and the leg to get it there.

Penalty kicks are very hard for even the best goalies. It's more about guessing location than lightening fast reflexes.

Swimming and running, would take a year or so of proper training to come close. Even then, it really depends upon your physiology to have an optimal VO2 max which would allow you to make those times.

Is this like someone shows up at a random door and asks the person inside to perform the feats or do you have time to train?

Because right now I have a better chance of hitting a 95 mph fastball than running a 4 hour marathon but given a few months training that would be totally opposite.

Hmmm. I think a couple can be a matter of luck even if one lacks skill. You could hit a fastball by closing your eyes and swinging for the fences (obviously not consistently). Same with stopping a pk. You could dive and hope the ball hits you.

Pole vaulting with no standard height to achieve can be learned. Now pole vaulting 15+ feet is a whole different matter. Like high jumping. I can clear 3 feet but no way in hell am I clearing 6 feet.

I think the swimming is probably the toughest. You're not going to get lucky and swim that time.

I put fastball followed by returning a serve as the two hardest things to do.

I suppose the 400 IM in under 5 minutes is next. You can't get lucky with swimming

quote:

Kicking a 50 yard FG in a game situation
hard, but you gotta be able to block out the noise.
quote:

Saving a penalty kick against international level players
can't be that hard. At a certain point it's just a guessing game.
quote:

Pole vaulting
second easiest.
shite, high schoolers do it.
quote:

Running a marathon in under 4 hours
that's roughly a 9 minute pace. Clearly the easiest. If the goal were 3 hours, it would land somewhere in the middle.

Fastball is easiest. Are we talking 3 strikes and you're out or can somebody stand there and take hacks all day until they eventually hit one?

Swimming one would be hardest because that's got the biggest physical limitation. Nobody's going to get lucky and swim that, and most could train really hard and still not do it.

Fg also limited by physical limitations not to mention mental in game.

Pole vault-depends on how high. Not hard to just get over any height.

Marathon would take work but doable.

Tennis serve and penalty kick would be like the fastball. Eventually you could get lucky.

If I had to go out and try to do one of these right now, I would definitely pick between the hitting the 95, 130 serve, or goalie stop.

Hope my lacrosse days help me with the speed ones. Goalie one is just hope you get lucky with the shot from player. If it is a machine hitting the top corners every time, I'm screwed and that's not happening.

Are we using metal bats or wooden bats for the pitching one? If I get to pick my bat and sit at a pitching machine all day. I think I could definitely get a piece of a 95 mph to be considered a hit. Game situation with 3 strikes (hell unlimited strikes even), no chance in hell and bat choice won't matter a damn bit either.

130 mph serve I think you could get lucky eventually in a practice situation, game situation would be quite different like baseball.

I would need to hardcore train for the rest, well except for swimming and kicking a 50 yarder. I am not even willing to attempt those.
