and I avoid the really bad parts at night
but i do business in those areas and understand the people there, obviously better than you do

Grew up in Chicago going to Sox and Bulls games with an Uncle who refused to pay for parking. Because of this, we were often left walking through "hoods" on the South and West sides of Chicago because we would park a couple miles away from the stadiums. Old Comiskey Park was right next to the Robert Taylor Homes housing project in Chicago....it's notorious to this day for being hoodier than hood, often looked at as worse than the old Cabrini Green project in Chicago. How many people do you think fricked with us? How about going to the West side of Chi for Bulls games at the old Barn? No trouble, despite being in shite areas a good ways from the stadium.
What about the time I got off a bus, lost, in the heart of the Westside hood as a high school kid wearing a starter jacket and Jordans (this was 93ish)? Eh, just some old lady coming by to tell me which bus to get on to get where I needed to go.
I imagine it would be completely different growing up black and living in these neighborhoods. But as a white guy, unless you're a complete idiot or there in the middle of the night in the summertime, you're probably going to be OK.

I'm not going into bad areas for no reason, hell, I don't go to really nice neighborhoods without a reason either
seriously, the one thing I really disagree with here is that you ever "grew up"

I could also get eaten by Jaws next time I go to the beach or bitten by a copperhead next time I walk in the grass

I think the danger of the backwoods is greatly exaggerated by Hollywood: Deliverance, Hills Have Eyes, Texas Chainsaw, House of 1000 Corpses etc.

I said earlier in the thread that I'm not afraid to walk around hoody neighborhoods at night but I'll add a caveat to that. In normal times I'm not. If there's been a recent police shooting and CNN and all of the community race riot organizers are in town all bets are off. In that case I wouldn't drive through some neighborhoods without two guns.

Now a stupid white kid moseying around areas he shouldn’t be at night might get jacked, but you could get jacked around tigerland if you aren’t being careful.
The main takeaway is don’t be where you shouldn’t, when you shouldn’t, and if you are, don’t be a target.
And if all else fails, take off your clothes and shite yourself. No one is gonna frick with a crazy naked shite covered honkey

I love your story though, because I was that guy that did not want to pay for parking as well, I walked through some bad streets on game days around old AFC Stadium going to Braves games in Atlanta
