Wife and I visiting 2nd week in October. I haven't been to NOLA since I graduated in '90. We Will rent off VRBO and looking at a place in Uptown near Wholefoods and a place in the Garden District near Annunciation and Louisiana. We will have our bicycles and riding most places such as the quarter. Are these areas good, safe locations? What other areas should we look if we want to be central to Magazine Street and The Quarter ?

The locations are good, Whole Foods to the quarter is a bit longer trek than Garden District.

ETA: I live between between Magazine and St Charles and Napoleon and Louisiana. Really like the area, bars, restaurants, parks, etc...all within walking distance.

You mean, before they start enforcing the already-existing ban. Given this city's record on consistently enforcing basically anything, I don't know that you have that much to worry about.

Many municipalities across the globe are cracking down on the "share economy."

Things such as Uber, VRBO, AirBnB, etc.

From San Francisco, to NYC, to Barcelona.

I'm not "Worried." If anything, they'll fine the shite out of the website and effectively shut it down. Which is what happened in Barcelona to me. I didn't go back to check to see if some places kept using AirBnB or not after my place got canceled, but it sure scared off a lot of listings.

FWIW, the term "Garden District" refers to the area bounded by St Charles, Magazine, Louisiana, and Jackson. Lots of people from out of town mis-apply it to various other parts of Uptown.

You can bring a tent and legally camp around Magazine and 90 for way cheaper.

That's my hood. You can bike just about everywhere from them. I'll be sure to meet up with you for some beers.

Short bike ride to Tips

Be sure to go ride your bikes to Hansen's for a snowball if they are still open in October.

Archafalaya is right there on Louisiana by Annunciation. Good spot for brunch or dinner. Also, the new Dat Dog is right on Magazine by Louisiana - get the alligator sausage dog and an Abita Restoration Ale!

Sounds like a plan. We will be in town the Thursday and Friday before the FBD Jam.

If you stay on Annunciation there is a greater than average chance you will be next door to some hood rats….pretty much 1 or 2 blocks off the river side of Magazine and up to St. Charles and I wouldn't even go north 1 block of St. Charles as it starts getting sketchy once you get to Louisiana towards downtown….and yes you would be in Wise's hood but keep in mind his next door neighbor was also shot and killed a few months ago

WF on Magazine would be a lengthy bike ride…I live near Napoleon and Magazine and have biked many times to the quarter…it's much more difficult than a normal 3 mile bike ride because of the shitty roads and tight traffic….I prefer cabbing it but hey it looks like you can Uber it by the time you get here
