Montana, Nebraska, and Utah all seem like the better option to Kansas in my opinion. Probably all would be worthwhile if you bought the land away from any large cities.

So, the entirety of Montana is in play.

true, but there seems to be some redeeming qualities. Either way, a log cabin in any of the states in that region would be bad arse.

This is true. I loved Montana until I fell off that ol' Ajax Mountain. Had to grow a beard and wear sunglasses ever since.

Nebraska isn't a bad state depending on your personal preferences but its weather and terrain are at least somewhat similar to Kansas.

I'd never think to compare Kansas and Utah either though. I'd rather build that place in Northwest Arkansas or up in the Smokies or Blueridge mountains over anywhere in the Midwest.

Yeh growing up my grandparents lived in the foothills of the smokies in East Tenn, and still do although in a different area, and I love going up there. I could definitely see myself living up there one day.

Right outside of Coeur D’Alene would be fantastic. That area is pristine for a 100% WFM scenario.

Me too. I'd love it. A sleeper if OP is looking at some place in the Midwest is the Ozarks in southern Missouri. My mom is from that area and it's not incredibly expensive and beautiful in certain areas.

No self-respecting person wants to live near that dirt.

That's one of my "if I were really an OT baller" dream spots to build an 8 figure home on the lake.

And in the winter

Yeah, that area would be up there for me too but I might have to pick a slightly less expensive area of Idaho.

What dirt? the Smokies? I don't really care about the mountains, I just like the area. Its the outskirts of the mountain area, more closer to Knoxville. to each their own, Mr. Potato
