Where is the hipster movement headed?

The hipster thing has gone from being a counter culture to full on mainstream. Beards, craft beers, nerd glasses, local farmers markets, record players, rustic urban restaurants, old fashioned barber shops, graphic tees, undercut gelled back hair and more are all popular. People who were wearing Hurley and board shorts two years ago are now seen on Facebook with mustaches and bow ties.

When the counter culture becomes mainstream, that's usually a sign that it's coming to an end. So what's next?

They're on to something else, but you've probably never heard of it.

It ended a long time ago, to be completely honest with you. In big cities, hipsters is just a code word for young white people who aren't young professionals. When the products are sold in Urban Outfitters, and have been for the last decade, you know that "hipster" is a convenient pejorative that means nothing.

There was never any such thing as a "hipster movement."

Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying those are bad things. I partake in many of them, because I think they are cool. their booming popularity is due in large part to the hipster movement, however.

Oh yeah. Not saying your dad is a hipster because he has a beard, but they're everywhere now.

No thanks. My brother lives in Philly and he's a total hipster. I only have to look at his Facebook page.

Sigh

I know this. I didn't say they were exclusively hipster. Hipsters have decent taste and style and like things that are cool and high quality, like craft beers and record players. This has helped these things to become extremely popular.

The craft beer market is evident of this. I love craft beer. But how many IPA's can the market handle?

Way too fricking many. Give me a porter or a stout. Dammit, that's strike three against me.
