Drive around a neighborhood that has new houses being built. There are always wood pallets laying around. At least there are a bunch in my neighborhood.

If you are near LSU's campus there are about 30 or so by Lod Cook where they built the new parking lot for the UREC.

Be aware that pallets are often sprayed with pesticides. If you're using for a project you need to be aware of what you have.
