There have been some interesting studies on consciousness and perhaps the future ability to be able to separate it from the body

Like that movie “Chappie”.

We've literally known this for 200 years

ETA: to the downvoters too stupid to know what I'm talking about, the French would scream at and slap severed heads to gauge their reactions.
Those stories of consciousness are anecdotal and by people who want it to be so. The sudden drop in blood pressure would render unconsciousness in a second or two or less. The movements are reflexive as the brain dies. There are plenty of pathological reflexes of a damaged or undeveloped brain that can be misinterpreted.

Eben Alexander has been debunked for a while. He lied to write a book. Look it up. What better than a neurosurgoen to confirm afterlife to so many who long for it. Cha ching.

So let me ask you:

How much does a typical book deal garner someone = not much

How much do neurosurgeons make = close to 1 million annually

You think he did this for money?
While maligning his professional duties as a material reductionist man of science?

This makes little sense

The material reductionist skeptic, Michael Schermer, “debunked” him
One has to realize we are not dealing with the limited understanding of science possessed by material reductionists (reference Max Planck quote for insight)

Schermer probably debunks his wife every night.

He can ask her, “ Do you love me?”

She responds yes.

He tries to quantify the amount of love, but sadly, he can’t

He concludes that love must not exist, ergo his wife truly does not love him...

Also, are the young kids also making up story for cha ching? UVA?
Should we be humble and realize there are things we cannot explain???

What if you don't know you're dead? Do you talk to Haley Joel Osment?

your consciousness carries on functioning after your heart stops beating and your body movements fail.

No shite. It takes awhile for the oxygen in the blood in your brain to run out after your heart stops beating. I assumed this was the standard hypothesis.

That's why the clinical definition of "death" as "heart stops beating" was always stupid to me.

Technically everyone dies from the same cause: lack of oxygen to the brain.
